Kuybyshev Square

Kuybyshev Square in Samara is bounded by Chapaev Street, Vilonovskaya Street, Galaktionovskaya Street and Krasnoyarskaya Street. The central element is the building of Samara Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. Originally, the space was called Sobornaya Square but the current name became fixed after the construction of Kuibyshev's monument about 12 meters high. The total area of the territory including squares amounts to 17.4 hectares. The architectural ensemble also includes the Palace of Culture built between 1935-1936. In 2010 there was consideration given to returning the historical name but the decision remained unchanged.
