Il-2 Sturmovik Monument

The Il-2 Attack aircraft monument was installed in Samara on Aviakonstruktora Ilyushina Square. The memorial was opened on May 9th, 1975 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Victory. Initially, the plane was intended to be positioned nose towards west along Kirov Avenue but due to government communication lines passing there its orientation was changed. Il-2 symbolizes the combat and labor bravery of Samaritans and was created upon the initiative of veterans from the aviation plant.
