Taganrog Art Museum is located in a historical mansion at 56 Alexandrovskaya Street, Taganrog. Founded in 1898 to celebrate the city's 200th anniversary by Anton Pavlovich Chekhov and artist Ilya Repin. The museum's collection includes over seven thousand exhibits featuring works by artists such as Surikov, Repin, Vereshchagin, Aivazovsky, Kuindzhi, Shishkin and Levitan. The museum's distinguishing feature are exhibitions of contemporary and local artists, while marble sculptures are exhibited in its inner courtyard. The building itself is an architectural monument considered a jewel of southern Russia's artistic heritage.
