Taganrog Drama Theatre named after A.P. Chekhov is located at Pyotrovskaya Street, 90. Founded in the XIX century, it was the first in Russia to show "The Comedy of Woes" by Грибоедов in 1845. The theatre bears Chekhov's name since 1944 and hosts the International Festival "On the Birthplace of A.P. Chekhov". Built in the style of Milan's La Scala theater, its first troupe was formed under the leadership of nobleman Pyotrovsky. It is also noted for receiving the Order of Labour Merit.
