St.Nikolay Church
Taganrog, Shevchenko St, 28
St. Nikolay Church in Taganrog is located at Shevchenko Street, 28. It is an historical and cultural monument of the 18th century known for its famous "foggy" bell cast in 1778. The church survived shelling during the Crimean War of 1855 as evidenced by preserved bomb fragments. In 1845, a three-tiered brick belfry was added. The main relic of the church is the remains of Saint Paul of Taganrog transferred here in 1999. This church has remained the sole surviving one in the city, avoiding destruction during the Soviet period.
