Historical and Regional Studies Museum (Alфераки Palace)

The Historical and Regional Studies Museum is situated in the former Alferaki Palace on Frunze Street in Taganrog. Built in the neo-baroque style per architect A. Stakenschneider's design, it is a late 19th-century architectural landmark. Since 1927, it has hosted a regional studies museum initiated by A. P. Chekhov for Taganrog's anniversary celebration. The exhibit features more than seven thousand artifacts; its interiors are notable for their splendor and majesty, evoking royal apartments.
