Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral Mirozhsky Monastery

Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral in Mirozhsky Monastery built in the 12th century is a monument of pre-Mongol architecture of North-Western Russia. Access to its interiors is restricted due to the need to maintain a special temperature and humidity regime. The cathedral's frescoes dating back to the pre-Mongol period of ancient Russian painting were long concealed under layers of whitewash owing to pollution and dampness. The monastery complex is situated at the confluence of rivers Mirozha and Velikaya.
