Spassky Cathedral

Spassky Cathedral is located on the Cathedral Square in Penza. It is an architecture monument of classicism built between 1790-1824. The cathedral has the main upper church altar dedicated to All-Merciful Savior consecrated in 1821. The cathedral's frescoes were painted by Kuzma Makarov and his students, and reworked by Ivan Makarov in the 1830s. Restoration works began in 2010; the bell tower foundation was poured with concrete in February 2011.
