Omsk Fortress

Omsk Fortress located on Tukhachevski Avenue in Omsk was founded in 1717 by order of I.D. Bukhgolts. Over time it took the shape of a pentagon with an area of about 30 hectares and became an important fortification structure in the region. Here there are preserved fortress gates including Tobolsk, Irtysh, Tara and Omsk Gates. Among the surviving buildings are the Resurrection Cathedral built in 1769 and barracks of the guardhouse and arsenal. In the local prison famous prisoners served their sentences including F.M. Dostoevsky and Decembrists.
