Central Siberian Geological Museum

The Central Siberian Geological Museum in Novosibirsk operates under the V. S. Sobolev Institute of Geology and Mineralogy of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Its collection features more than 20 new minerals discovered by researchers of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as about 70 synthetic minerals created in scientific laboratories. Of particular value are the holotypes, which serve as standards for mineralogists worldwide, and a collection of 250 tektites gathered by geologist Eduard Izokh. The museum also houses the "Novosibirsk" and "Maslyanino" meteorites, a druse of danburite weighing about 200 kilograms, and a systematic mineralogical collection containing more than 20,000 samples.
