Memorial Square of Those Fallen During the Civil War (Heroes of the Revolution)

The Memorial Square of the Heroes of the Revolution in Novosibirsk is located on Krasny Prospekt and was laid out on the site of a mass grave of 104 people who died in December 1919. Since 1922, a monument in the form of a split stone block, from which a hand with a burning torch rises, created by artist Vladimir Sibiryakov and engineer Alexander Kudryavtsev, has stood over this grave. Previously, the grave of the French revolutionary Adrien Lejeune, a participant in the Paris Commune whose remains were reburied in Paris in 1971, was located here. Today, the complex is an object of cultural heritage of regional significance; the state protects the mass graves, monuments to revolutionaries, and a monumental panel opened in 1960.
