Church of the Transfiguration of Jesus in Kovalevo

The Church of Transfiguration of Jesus Christ in Kovalevo, built in 1345, is situated 3 kilometers from Veliky Novgorod. It stands out with its porches on three sides, few windows and a roof structure called "posazhennitsa". After destruction during the war of 1941 only a third of the masonry remains. Inside the temple fragments of frescoes depicting holy warriors have been preserved. Since 2003 the building has been open to visitors as a museum site.
