Church of Nikolay on Lipnya

Stone Church of Nikolay on Lipno, founded in 1292 by Novgorod bishop Clement, is situated on Lipno Island where River Msta flows into Lake Ilmen. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992, the church retains fragments of ancient painting and features a vaulted roof, cruciform openings and ceramic crosses. After restoration works from 2018 to 2019 it appeared in its renewed form. It houses the sole surviving structure of former island monastery complex. An icon of Nikolay is displayed at Novgorod Museum-Reserve.
