Antony's Monastery Cathedral of Christmas Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Cathedral of Christmas Birth of Our Lady Antony Monastery built in 1117-1119 is situated on the grounds of former monastery on the right bank of Volkhov River in Veliky Novgorod. It is a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. The church was painted in 1125; ancient painting fragments remain. In 1680 an annex of St. John the Evangelist was added to the cathedral. Since 1740 there has been a theological seminary functioning within the monastery.
