Monument to a Thousand Years of Russia

The monument "Millennium of Russia" is located in Veliky Novgorod, on the Kremlin grounds near the Sophian Cathedral. Its height is 15.7 meters, weight - over 100 tons. The monument was installed in 1862 to commemorate the millennium of the Varangian call to Rus'. On its tiers there are 128 figures of prominent state figures, writers, artists and war heroes. During World War II, the monument was destroyed; during restoration about 1,500 details were reconstructed.
