Alekseevskaya (Belya) Tower

Aleksheevskaya (Belaya) Tower — the only fully preserved tower of Novgorod's Okolnyy City. Located on Troitskaya Street. Inside the tower an exhibition about the history of the fortress and its garrison is open to visitors. One can see ancient brickwork patterns (plinfa) as well as materials related to the fortress' artillery armament. The tower was built at the end of the 16th century to defend southern approaches to the city. Okolnyy City was the outer defensive line of medieval Novgorod; its fortifications were constructed at the end of the 14th century.
