Kazan Cathedral on Red Square

The Kazan Cathedral is located on Red Square in Moscow, between GUM and the Historical Museum at Nikolskaya Street, 3. It is an active Orthodox church designed in Russian gothic style with a bell tower crowned by a шатровое завершение and red-and-white кокошники. After being demolished in 1936, it was reconstructed from 1990 to 1993 based on old drawings and photographs. The main relic of the cathedral is the Kazan Icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which brought fame to the temple after miraculously saving Moscow from Polish invaders in 1612.
