Spaso-Vifanskiy Male Monastery

Spaso-Vifansky Male Monastery is situated on the southeastern part of Sergiyev Posad, on Maslieva Street. It was founded in the 18th century, with its main church, Spaso-Preobrazhensky Cathedral, built between 1783-1785. After the monastery's closure in 1925, the buildings were returned to the care of Trinity-Sergius Lavra. Nearby the cathedral there were seminary buildings constructed in the early 19th century. The temple features an oval layout and two-tiered composition; its interior design resembles Lazar's cave and symbolizes Mount Sinai.
