Geftsimansky Chernigovsky Skit Trinity-Sergius Lavra

Geftsimanskiy Chernigovskiy Skit — monastic retreat of Holy-Troitsky Sergiyev Lavra established in mid-19th century. Known for its cave section inspired by Kievo-Petcherskaya Lavra by Blessed Fool Philipushka. In 1851 an underground church dedicated to Archangel Mikhail was consecrated. Following closure under Soviet rule various institutions were located here but since 1990 monastic life has been restored. The skit is situated in isolated location on eastern edge of Sergiyevo.
