Bogoyavlensky Staro-Golutvin Monastery

Kolomna, Golutvinskaya Street, 11

The Epiphany Old-Golutvin Monastery in Kolomna was founded in the period from 1385 to 1389 on a place whose name "golutva" means a clearing or a glade in the forest. Its first abbot, Grigory, was consecrated as Bishop of Kolomna in 1392 and managed the cathedral until 1405. In April 1912, Elder Barsanuphius of Optina became the abbot, who, a year before his death in 1913, put the spiritual life and buildings of the cloister in order. In 1993, Patriarch Alexy II visited Kolomna and the former monastery, after which restoration work began and the territory was transferred to the Moscow Diocese.
