People's School Building

Kolomna, Kremlyovskaya Street, 18

The Building of the Public School is a late 18th-century structure located on the territory of the Kolomna Kremlin near the Cathedral Square, and it is the only public civil building of the era of strict classicism in the city. The two-story brick and plastered building with a white-stone ground floor was partially rebuilt in the first third of the 19th century, and the design of its capitals was repeatedly reproduced on other buildings in Kolomna. Since 1805, the Kolomna District School operated here, which in 1892 became a two-grade city school, and in 1896 — a three-grade one. Later, the former school building was converted into residential premises, and among its notable graduates is Ivan Yanzhul, an academician of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences.
