Marinkina Tower
Kolomna, Lazareva St, near Mikhailovskie Gates
Marinkina Tower, built in 1525–1531, is one of the seven surviving towers of the Kolomna Kremlin. Its twenty-faceted pillar is decorated with 27 embrasure-windows arranged in a checkerboard pattern for circular defense, with the ceilings of the lower tiers being segmental and the upper ones vaulted. Legends of the imprisonment and death of Marina Mniszech are associated with this place, according to which she was either thrown from the tower or walled up in the wall, as well as a legend about a hidden treasure that glows at night. The further fate of the captive after her arrest near Astrakhan is unknown, and her imprisonment in Kolomna is considered only a legend.
