Assumption Cathedral

Kolomna, Lazareva St, 14

The Assumption Cathedral in Kolomna, located at 14 Lazareva Street, is the cathedral of the Kolomna Diocese and the Moscow Metropolis of the Russian Orthodox Church. The modern church was founded in 1378 in honor of the victory on the Vozha River and completed in 1382 after the battle with Mamai, although the old cathedral on this site was dismantled later under Archbishop Nikita. There is an opinion that in 1392 Theophanes the Greek worked on the temple, painting the Deesis, which was later transferred to the Annunciation Cathedral of the Moscow Kremlin. It is also known that in 1380 Prince Dmitry prayed in the cathedral under construction before the Battle of Kulikovo, and in 1788 Bishop Theophylact (Gorsky) of Kolomna was buried here.
