Church of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God
Kolomna, Lazareva Street, 14
The Church of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God in Kolomna is located on Sobornaya Square. The modern five-domed building was erected in 1858–1861 with donations from merchant Filipp Nazarovich Tupitsyn in place of the dismantled church of 1776, and it was consecrated by Metropolitan Filaret. Inside the church are new iconostases with images of Sergius of Radonezh, Seraphim of Sarov, John of Kronstadt, and Dmitry Donskoy, and the western wall is adorned with the painting "The Last Judgment" depicting the blessed elder Matrona. Despite the removal of the heating boiler after the revolution, services in the church continued even in winter, but in the late 1920s the church was closed and devastated.
