Church of the Resurrection of the Word
Kolomna, Dmitriya Donskogo Street, 16
The Church of the Resurrection of the Word in Kolomna stands on the northern side of the Assumption Cathedral and is considered the only surviving fragment of the grand-princely palace. At the coronation in 1366 in this church, Prince Dmitry noticed the priest Mityai, who later became his spiritual father and keeper of the grand-princely seal. In 1929, the church was closed, its dome, bell tower, and fence were destroyed, and the building was given to a sports hall; in 1992, the temple was returned to the parish of the Assumption Cathedral. Excavations in 2001 based on graffiti on the white stone basement clarified the construction date of the existing stone quadrangle to the very beginning of the 16th century, whereas previously the church had been wooden.
