Epiphany Church in Gonchary

The Epiphany Church in Gonchary in Kolomna was founded as a stone Spassky Church, but was consecrated in honor of the Epiphany on July 7, 1689, for an unknown reason. The church has preserved wooden choirs located along the northern and western walls of the main volume. In the church house of this temple, on December 26, 1782, Saint Filaret, Metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomna, was born, and his grandfather Nikita Afanasyev was ordained as a priest of the Epiphany Church in 1773. The parish priest Iakov Brilliantov, who led the community in the late 1920s, suffered for his faith in 1937.
