Church of St. Nicholas on Posada

Kolomna, Posadskaya Street, 18

The Church of St. Nicholas on Posad in Kolomna is a monument of federal significance, a status assigned to it in 1960, although the restoration did not begin until 1970. Only the lower tier of its red, detached, hipped-roof bell tower, built in 1716 and nicknamed "Sorokozvon," has survived, while the icons and wall paintings were lost in the 1930s. In 1992, the building was transferred to the Old Believer Orthodox community. The nickname "Wet" Nicholas is associated with an icon depicting the saint saving a baby who fell into water, and among the donors of the parish before the construction of the stone church were the grain merchants Bichevins and merchants Ivan Alekseev and Ivan Bichevin.
