Bobren Monastery

Staroye Bobrenevo

The Bobrenev Monastery in the village of Staroye Bobrenevo near Kolomna is protected as a cultural heritage site of federal significance in Russia. According to the legend recorded by local historian N. D. Ivanchin-Pisarev, the name of the monastery comes from beaver hunting, as beavers were common in this forested area. A popular version claims that the monastery was founded by voevoda Bobrok by the vow of Dmitry Donskoy in honor of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary, and before the monastery's closure, daily prayers were offered here for the warriors who fell on the Kulikovo Field. The Feodorovsky Church in the late Classicism style was completed in 1860 by builder Theoktist on the site of the ruins of the Entry to Jerusalem Church.
