Arbatskaya Street

Kolomna, Arbatskaya Street

Arbatskaya Street in Kolomna emerged in the first half of the 17th century during the development of the Posad. It is home to the Church of St. Nicholas Posadsky, built in 1716 with funds from parishioners, featuring platbands and kokoshniks restored during the 1970s renovation. In the early 1990s, this church was transferred to the Old Believer community of the Russian Orthodox Old-Rite Church. The street was home to Archpriest Nikolai Kovalsky, surgeon Petr Sarafyan, and writer Boris Pilnyak, who created his works here from 1917 to 1924.
