Kostroma, Ostrovskogo St, 5
Kostroma Regional Puppet Theatre is located at Ostrovsky Street, 5. It was founded in 1936, with its first performance taking place on November 8th of that year involving six enthusiasts from the local youth theatre. The theatre settled into its own building in 1946. Its history began long before this - initially it was a people's reading room which later became a dramatic theatre. The building constructed in 1896 became home to puppet artistry, which won prestigious Russian award "Golden Mask" twice: in 2011 and 2018. The first play of the theatre was called "Sister Fox". During World War II, the actors performed for wounded soldiers in hospitals.
