Kostroma State Drama Theatre named after A.N. Ostrovsky

Kostroma State Drama Theatre named after A.N. Ostrovsky is located at Mira Avenue, 9. Founded in 1808, the first stone theatre building was constructed in 1863 with funds from Kostromichi. The theater is associated with Alexander Ostrovsky's work; his plays were premiered here. Officially named after the writer in 1923. In 1999 it became a state cultural institution. For many years the theatre has been hosting the festival "Ostrovsky Days in Kostroma", and during World War II continued its activities supporting frontline brigades.
