Romanovsky Art Museum

The Art (Romanovsky) Museum in Kostroma opened on May 19, 1913 to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty reign. The building was designed in the style of pseudo-Russian modernism by architect N.I. Gorylitsyn and is a significant architectural attraction of the city. The museum exhibits a rich collection of Russian art with works by Shishkin, Repin, Kustodiev, Korovin, as well as artifacts of Old Russian art and Russian avant-garde. The opening of the museum was accompanied by Emperor Nikolay II's visit, who personally approved the design of the building.
