Romanovsky Art Museum

The Art (Romanovsky) Museum in Kostroma is situated at Mira Avenue, 5. It was founded on May 19, 1913 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of the Romanov dynasty's reign. The building is designed in the style of pseudo-Russian modernism according to architect N.I. Gorylitsyn's project. The museum houses a rich collection of Russian art from the 16th to the 20th century, including works by Shishkin, Repin, Kustodiev, Korovin, as well as ancient Russian artifacts and pieces of Russian avant-garde. At one time, Tsar Nikolay II and his family were present during the opening of the exhibition.
