Odigitrievskaya Church (Novokuznetsk)

Novokuznetsk, Kuznetsky District, Narodnaya Street, near No. 1

The Odigitrievskaya Church in Novokuznetsk is the first stone structure in the city, consecrated in 1780 by Archpriest Efimiy Vikulovsky. Until 1835, it served as the main church of the Kuznetsk district, and in 1857, Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky and Maria Dmitrievna Isayeva were married here. On the southern facade, there is a fresco of the Odigitria Mother of God, which is atypical for Siberian Baroque, and its expressiveness is not created by volumetric-plastic details. The construction of the stone temple began in 1773 on the bank of the Kartassky stream, and its foundation was consecrated in May 1775.
