Novokuznetsk Local Lore Museum
Novokuznetsk, Pionersky Ave, 24
The Novokuznetsk Local Lore Museum was founded on November 7, 1927, based on the private collections of local historians Dmitry Yaroslavtsev and Georgy Blynsky, who donated his house with the exhibition to the city. The museum building, constructed in the second half of the 19th century, originally belonged to the priest Evgeny Tyumentsev, who married Dostoevsky to Isaeva, and in 1918–1920, the metallurgist M. K. Kurako lived here. The area of the main building is 1100 square meters, while the branch on Narodnaya Street occupies 507 square meters. The museum entrance is decorated with ancient cannons from the Kuznetsk Fortress, and the exhibition houses a fragment of a commemorative wooden cross from 1717, which, according to legend, was made by Peter I; over its entire history, the institution has been visited by about 5 million people.
