V.V. Mayakovsky Square

Novokuznetsk, V.V. Mayakovskogo Sq

V. V. Mayakovsky Square in Novokuznetsk is formed by an ensemble for which architect Nikolai Brovkin and sculptor Boris Plenkin received a republican prize and the Repin Prize. The monument to the poet, recognized as a cultural heritage site of regional significance, was moved closer to Ordzhonikidze Street and installed on a pedestal in 1978, increasing the total height of the monument. In the center of the square is one of the largest round flowerbeds in the city, where cannas, marigolds, and cinerarias are planted, and in 1979 a trolleybus line ran through the square along Metallurgov Avenue. The poet himself was never in Novokuznetsk, but he dedicated the poem "Khrenov's Story about Kuznetskstroy and the People of Kuznetsk" to the city.
