Kuznetsk Fortress
Novokuznetsk, Kreposnoy Passage, 1
The Museum "Kuznetsk Fortress" was founded on December 28, 1991, and its first director was Andrey Yuryevich Ogurtsov, a candidate of historical sciences. The predecessor of the fortress, the Kuznetsk Ostrog, was founded in April 1618, although its exact location has not been established. In 1809, two stone sorties were built in the fortress ramparts, and a one-story brick soldier's barracks from 1806–1808 had 16 windows along its long facade. Since July 1998, the celebration of the City Day of Novokuznetsk has been solemnly opened annually on the territory of the fortress.
