Znamensky Cathedral
Kemerovo, Sobornaya Street, 24
Znamensky Cathedral in Kemerovo was built on the site of the wooden Znamenskaya Church, which was demolished in 1961. Because of this, before its construction, residents had to travel to the only St. Nicholas Church on the right bank of the Tom River for services. The Museum of Orthodox History at the cathedral houses about seventy icons from the 16th to the 20th centuries, including works by the 19th-century icon painter Grigory Zhuravlev. In 1993–1994, a group of artists led by A. S. Rabotnov, a graduate of the Stroganov School, participated in the painting of St. George's Church. Rabotnov supervised the decoration of the cathedral until 2004.
