Kopikuz Aerial Tramway
Kemerovo, Tom River, near the left bank, surviving cableway pylon
The Kopikuz cable car in Kemerovo was a source of pride for the townspeople in the pre-war years, along with the "Moscow" sound cinema and a two-story department store. The total length of the road was 2.91 km, including a 405-meter span over the Tom River, and its supports on the banks were built of larch with concrete foundations. According to memories, due to the construction of the "Centralnaya" mine, the miners' settlement stretched in a chain of houses along the road, and workers sometimes crossed the river in carts, in which overturns happened. After a young engineer froze to death in a cart during the ice drift due to a power outage at night, a strict ban on such crossings was introduced.
