I. Y. Yakovenko Monument

The monument to Ivan Yakovlev is located in Cheboksary, on Lenina Avenue near the National Library of the Chuvash Republic. It was opened on June 25, 1970 by architect Grigory Saeshev and sculptor David Naroditsky. Ivan Yakovlev is depicted sitting with an open book on his knees; his figure is cast in bronze. In front of the monument stands a black granite plaque with inscriptions in both Russian and Chuvash languages. Yakovlev is known for developing a system of education for children from non-Russian ethnic groups in the region.
