Astrakhan Kremlin - the main historical attraction of the city. Founded in 1558 by Ivan the Terrible, the stone fortress was reconstructed from 1582 to 1589 under the supervision of Ivan IV and Boris Godunov. Includes 22 architectural monuments from the 16th century until the beginning of the 20th century and is a candidate for inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Symbolizes the significance of the region in Russian history.
