Astrakhan Picture Gallery named after P.M. Dogadin opened in December 1918 due to a donation of collector Pavel Dogadin's collection. Since 1921 it is located in the historical building of merchant Plotnikov's mansion. Today its funds include over 22 thousand exhibits, including works by Russian artists from the 17th to the 20th centuries such as paintings by Borovikovsky, Brullov, Tropinin, Shishkin and Levitan.
