Demidov Pillar
Barnaul, Demidovskaya Square (between Polzunov St, Pushkin St and Krasnoarmeyskiy Ave)
Demidov's Pillar is a federal significance monument in Barnaul located on Demidova Square between Polzunov Street, Pushkin Street and Krasnoarmeysky Avenue. The 14-meter-high monument consists of twelve granite blocks brought from Vedovskaya village of Kolyvan Volost. Founded in 1825, it was completed in 1839 to commemorate the centennial of gold mining industry in Altai. Despite an attempt at destruction in 1918, the granite structure has survived due to its strength. Today there is a cast iron relief depicting Akinfiy Demidov which is now kept in the local museum.
