Altai Regional Drama Theatre named after V.M. Shukshin is located in Barnaul at Molodezhnaya Street, 15. The building of the theatre, built in 1979, became a modern cultural center after mid-2000s reconstruction. Regularly staged here are performances of Russian and world classics as well as contemporary dramas. The theater bears the name of writer Vasily Makarovich Shukshin, who was honored with this title in 1991. In the building there are three stages: main hall for 711 seats, experimental stage for 183 seats and small stage for 59 seats. There is also a museum within the theater where one can learn about the history of the theater and collection of theatrical costumes. The theater has been awarded prestigious national prize "Golden Mask" three times.
