Rustaveli Avenue

Rustaveli Avenue is the central and ceremonial street of Tbilisi named after poet Shota Rustaveli. Starting from Freedom Square it extends northwestward being an important cultural artery of the city. Buildings along the avenue include structures from the 19th to 20th centuries in various architectural styles such as classicism, eclecticism and modernism. Key cultural institutions are situated here including Rustaveli Theatre, Opera House and National Museum. In 1989 and 1991 Rustaveli Avenue was the scene of significant historical events in Georgia.
