Batumi Sea Port

Batumi Sea Port founded on November 27, 1878 initially received porto-franco status. With the development of Baku-Batumi railway its significance grew. In 1884-1887 defensive walls, oil storage facilities and five tanker berths were constructed. By 1883 first exports of oil products amounting to 3 million pounds began. By the start of the 20th century there were 22 export companies operating in the city related to oil and oil products.
