Sakhalta Monastery

Sxalti Monastery is situated in Khulo Valley, 100 km from Batumi. It is an ancient monument of Adjara with a hall church featuring nine arched and two circular windows. Inside the church there are unique frescoes from the 14th to 15th centuries, including an image of young John the Baptist. There is also a wine cellar, an old press, qvevri and a medieval bridge over the Sxalti River. A male monastery operates, continuing the tradition of monasticism.
