Pyotro Fortress

Pyotr's Fortress is situated in Tsikhisdziri village near Batumi. Originating in the 6th century on the site of an ancient Lazian settlement, it controlled sea routes along the Black Sea. On its grounds there remain ruins of a basilica from the 6th to 7th centuries, an acropolis with remnants of fortress, palace, ancient baths and military structures. The fortress stands on a rocky hill above the sea.
