Gwara Fortress

Gvara Fortress is situated in the Helvachauri municipality within Machachkala National Park, beneath the mountains of Adjaria. It existed from the 11th century until the early 20th century and controlled important trade routes along rivers Chorokhi and Machahilya. The height of surviving walls ranges from 3 to 6 meters; its total area about 150 sq. m. There are two storage rooms and a well on its grounds. The fortress stands atop a hill approximately 50 meters above river levels.
