Shamwan Bay (Lam Maa)

Outlying Islands, Sham Wan, southeastern coast of Lamma Island

Shamwan Bay is situated on the southeastern coast of Lamma Island. A restricted period was enforced here to protect sea turtles, previously ending in October but since 2021 lasting seven months. In September 2001, 80 turtle hatchlings were released there. By 2013, a turtle left Hong Kong waters after its last nesting in October. Accessing the restricted area requires special permission. Previously, according to Chinese sources, the beach was a site for archaeological discoveries and remains of ancient inhabitants.
