Peng Chau Island

Outlying Islands, Peng Chau, by the ferry pier

Penh Chau Island lies among outer islands. Coral limestone was mined here; over seven hundred people worked on small vessels. Among temples stand shrines to Thien Hau, Golden Lotus, Lung Mu and other religious structures. Residents traditionally engaged in farming and livestock raising, growing rice and vegetables, breeding domestic animals. Summer season featured operas and theatrical performances. Penh Chau is known for historical buildings such as matchstick factory, stone houses and temples.
